The Day I Almost Didn't Go
Hi… I am Ayaan.
And this is a story about the
morning I almost talked myself out of everything.
The alarm was set for 5:30 AM. A
plan to go for a run at Cubbon Park. Fresh air and open roads before Bangalore
woke up properly.
The alarm rang and I pressed
snooze and went back to sleep.
When I finally opened my eyes, it
was 7 already. The plan felt already broken. The motivation I had the night
before had quietly packed its bags and left.
It's too late now. The park will
be crowded. I should just sleep, I thought.
But some quiet stubborn part of me
— got me off the bed anyway.
I got ready slowly. No enthusiasm.
No energy. Just mechanical movement — brush, wash, change, go. The entire ride
to Cubbon Park my mind worked overtime against me. Why am I going all the way
there? I woke up late. The run is already ruined. I should just go back to
sleep.
But something kept saying — just
go. If it doesn't work, you can always come back and sleep.
So, I kept riding as the cool breeze
felt good.
I reached Cubbon Park and found
that a marathon was in progress. Roads blocked. Barriers everywhere. I sat on
my bike genuinely considering turning around.
Then I noticed bikes and cars
slipping into a parking area through a side entrance. The park wasn't
completely closed. There was a way in.
I followed them.
I started walking. Then something shifted inside me.
Let's run. No plan. No target. No
warm-up. Just — run.
And I ran. 7 to 8 kilometers. Without stopping. Without checking my phone.
That morning taught me something.
Motivation doesn't come first, movement
does.
You don't wait to feel ready. You
just go. And somewhere between leaving the house and arriving at the
destination — readiness finds you.
The days when you have every
reason not to show up, those are often the days you surprise yourself the most.
Just go.
